Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather your ingredients.
  2. If using fresh broccoli, steam or blanch it for 3-5 minutes until tender and vibrant green. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine broccoli, cream of chicken soup, milk, and shredded cheese. Stir until well coated.
  4. Fold in chopped onions if using. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish, smoothing it out evenly.
  6. Crush butter crackers and mix them with melted butter. Evenly sprinkle over the casserole.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes until bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
