Cooking Steps
  1. Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes until foamy.
  2. Caramelize the Onions: Add 1 sliced medium yellow onion and a pinch of salt, cooking for about 15 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
  3. Toast the Rice: Stir in 1 cup of long-grain white rice and continuously stir for 2-3 minutes to toast the rice.
  4. Add Broth and Seasonings: Pour in 2 cups of broth, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of dried thyme, and bring to a boil.
  5. Simmer the Rice: Cover and let simmer for 18-20 minutes. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.
  6. Fluff and Serve: Fluff the rice with a fork. Stir in Parmesan if using. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
