- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, ensuring it hangs over the edges.
- Mash the ripe bananas until completely smooth (aim for about 1 cup of mashed banana).
- Add melted butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas and whisk until well combined.
- Gently add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
- Fold in most of the chocolate chips, leaving a handful aside for topping.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool on a wire rack for about 20 minutes, then lift from the pan and cut into squares.
