Ingredients
  

For the Meatballs
  • 1 lb Ground Pork substitute with ground turkey for a leaner option
  • 1 medium Granny Smith Apple (grated) other tart apples can work
  • 6 leaves Fresh Sage fresh is best
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs regular breadcrumbs can be used
  • 1 clove Garlic (grated) fresh enhances the overall taste
  • 1 Egg for binding all ingredients
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper freshly cracked is preferred
  • 1/4 tsp Allspice use sparingly
For the Creamy Sweet Potatoes
  • 2.5 lbs Sweet Potatoes for mashing
  • 4 tbsp Salted Butter unsalted can be substituted
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream can be swapped with milk

Method
 

Steps
  1. Peel and chop sweet potatoes into even pieces. Place in a large pot of salted water, bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, cream, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, panko breadcrumbs, grated apple, chopped sage, grated garlic, salt, pepper, allspice, and egg. Mix gently until just combined, shape into 1.5-inch meatballs.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange meatballs on a parchment-lined baking sheet, broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispy exterior, then bake for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  4. On serving plates, spoon a generous portion of creamy sweet potatoes and top with freshly baked meatballs. Garnish with additional sage leaves if desired.
