Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Add richness; substitute with ricotta for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese Provides balanced flavor; cheddar works for sharper taste.
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese Gives a gooey texture; omit for less cheesiness.
  • 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning Enhances flavor depth; homemade can be used.
  • 2-3 jalapeno peppers Adds heat; adjust for desired spice level.
  • ½ cup bacon Adds smoky flavor; leave out for vegetarian option.
For the Wrapping
  • 1 package wonton wraps Provides crispy exterior; alternative wrappers may not work.

Equipment

  • deep pan
  • mixing bowl
  • Slotted Spoon

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, shredded Mexican blend cheese, mozzarella cheese, and ranch seasoning. Add in diced jalapeno peppers and crumbled bacon if desired, then mix well.
  2. Take a wonton wrapper and place it on a clean surface. Spoon about 1-2 teaspoons of the filling into the center. Moisten the edges with water, fold, and pinch to seal securely.
  3. In a deep pan, pour in vegetable oil to reach about 2 inches deep. Heat to around 350°F (175°C). Test by dropping a small piece of wonton wrapper in; if it bubbles, it's ready.
  4. Carefully place the filled wontons into the hot oil, frying for about 50 seconds to 1 minute on each side until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to turn them halfway.
  5. Remove from oil and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
